Nature's Ninjas


Discover how animals defend themselves against predators at Nature’s Ninjas, a new traveling exhibit at the Swaner EcoCenter. From porcupines to geckos, explore some of nature’s wildest defensive adaptations! CHaSS Alumni Lunch Series: Ben Kolendar

Panel Discussion/Presentation

Sit down to lunch with Ben Kolendar, the Deputy Director for Salt Lake City’s Department of Economic Development. Prior to his current position, Ben served as Senior Advisor to the Executive Director of SelectUSA, a presidentially-appointed position and, as an official in the U.S. Department of Defense, he was dedicated to the development of Afghanistan’s economy

Ben has an MBA with an emphasis in globalization and international trade from Georgetown University and a Bachelor’s in Philosophy from USU. He is also an alumni of USU's Institute of Government and Politics internship program and one of three CHaSS Alums named to Utah Business Magazine's 40 under 40 in 2019.

Please join us for lunch and have the chance to speak with Ben directly about his experiences working in both local and federal government positions. Due to Ben's schedule, lunch will start promptly at 11:30AM.

Award winning author, Charles Mann, to speak to students on campus


This seminar will be given by award-winning author, Charles C. Mann. Mann is author of 1491: New Revelations of the Americas Before Columbus and 1493: Uncovering the New World Columbus Created. His lecture will be on his new book, The Wizard and the Prophet: Two Remarkable Scientists and their Dueling Visions to Shape Tomorrow's World.

Friends of Merrill-Cazier Library Spring Lecture Featuring Mike Christiansen and Eric Nelson


With origins stemming from the beginning of the 20th century African American adoption of European folk and religious music, the popular genre of music known as jazz continues to morph and grow in popularity. The Lightwood Duo, featuring Mike Christiansen and Eric Nelson, will talk about and demonstrate the elements that combine to create jazz including: blues (the early beginnings), harmony, the feel, and improvisation.
