Biological Engineering Seminar Series

The BE Department's Seminar Series Speaker, Dr. Phillip Heck, General Manager and CEO at Central Valley Water Reclamation Facility (CVWRF), will present: "Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Struvite Control Issues at CVWRF".

November 25th at 11:30 in ENGR 3

Come and hear about how CVWRF has implemented biological nutrient removal (BNR) processes, struvite formation and control, and side-stream phosphorus and nitrogen removal processes, to address new regulatory initiatives. Dr. Heck will also talk about how the BNR process concentrates phosphorus and nitrogen in the waste biological solids, which are removed and treated in an anaerobic digestion process. How precipitation of struvite can cause scaling and damage to infrastructure/equipment. He will also discuss his educational and career pathway in water/wastewater consulting, engineering, and management.

A meet and greet with Dr. Heck will be held immediately following the seminar in ENGR 326.

The class with the most attendance for the semester will win lunch during finals week catered by the biological engineering department!!
