About This Certificate

USU Eastern is offering students in Price, Utah, the chance to develop industry skills and foundational knowledge and gain hands-on experience with a Drones Certificate-Certificate of Completion.

Students can expect to become a certificated commercial remote pilot, build their own drones, and gain experience in a variety of different professional settings. Students develop a working knowledge of the design, maintenance, and control of unmanned aerial systems (drones), while learning how UAS skills are applied in a variety of careers and professional fields.

What You Will Learn

With a focus on introducing students to as many aspects of the drone industry as possible, this Certificate of Completion is a hands-on, project-based certificate that also incorporates principles of flight, aviation weather, and industry-driven techniques and expectations for communication, professionalism, documentation, and more.

Students will work through flight lab courses to gain experience and logged flight time for industry preparation with a variety of drones and an emphasis on fixed-wing flight. Students will be provided with multiple opportunities to work with businesses and organizations in Carbon County and to provide service hours while in this program.

The program includes various building labs, academic-based courses, a Part 107 course, flight labs, service hour requirements, and an individual project working with a local business or organization.

Courses are stackable with a minor in drones or bachelor's degree in aviation management with an emphasis in drones.

Admission

Admission Requirements

  • Minimum 2.5 GPA to begin and complete certificate program

Deadlines

  • Entry to the program is possible only during the Fall semester

Program Requirements

  • Completion of the certificate earns 30 credits applicable to a degree
  • Certificate is completed between a single Fall and Spring semester
  • Tuition and fees include up to four drones, including student-designed drones
  • Certificate is only available at USU Eastern in Price, UT
  • Part 107 passing score required for second semester enrollment and certificate completion
