About This Degree

The animal and dairy science degree includes all disciplines of the animal production industry, current scientific applications associated with animal science, and biotechnology associated with the animal science industry.

Students in this program will not only be exposed to multiple disciplines in the classroom but will also have the opportunity for experiential, and applied experiences in the fields of animal nutrition, reproduction and physiology, breeding and genetics, livestock production management, and animal biotechnology.

The animal and dairy science program is also a multi-species focused program in which students have the opportunity to work with beef, dairy cattle, horses, sheep, goats and swine.

What You Will Learn

The department has ample resources to help students reach their academic and future professional goals. The department has expertise and access to research equipment to help students further their academic training related to animal health, reproduction, molecular genetics, growth and development, virology, livestock production management, and nutrition.

Students will gain experience in these fields alongside professors who specialize in these fields, thus improving their academic experience and future professional opportunities.

Admission Requirements

In addition to Utah State University’s admissions requirements, the animal, dairy and veterinary sciences program has additional requirements:

  • Freshmen: New freshmen admitted to USU in good standing qualify for admission to this major.
  • Transfer Students: Students with less than 60 semester credits transferring from other institutions need a 2.2 transfer GPA. Students with 60 or more semester credits need a 2.75 total GPA to be admitted to the bioveterinary science empahsis.

International students have additional admissions requirements.
