Yin yoga promotes sensory awakening that melts away tension and stress, and is known to release repressed or stored emotions. A tried and true technique to experience fascia and connective tissue release, Yin yoga is also an excellent practice for beginners because it offers plenty of time to uncover the unique benefits of individual poses without worrying about tricky transitions.

Live Q&A with USU's Spider Silk Lab

Panel Discussion/Presentation

Flexible, lightweight, strong, biocompatible, and water-resistant. A material with all of these properties can mean life-changing medical devices, protective equipment, and even building materials. But who came up with this super product? Spiders!

Can you imagine trying to farm spiders, which eat each other and yield relatively small quantities of silk? This is where spider silk expert, Justin Jones, comes in. Join us for a live Q&A with this USU researcher and professor to learn about how his lab is creating synthetic spider silk through the use of transgenic goats, bacteria, alfalfa, and even silkworms!

Dr. Justin A. Jones is an assistant professor in the Department of Biology at Utah State University. Dr. Jones received his Ph.D. degree in biology from Utah State University in 2015. He has worked with spider silk and its recombinant forms since 1998 while attending the University of Wyoming.

This event is part of Antelope Island Spider Fest 2021! Join us through Facebook live on the Swaner Preserve and EcoCenter Facebook page.

A Conversation on the Impact of COVID-19 on Utah Women and Work

Panel Discussion/Presentation

The Utah Women & Leadership Project invites you to join us for our first Fall Women’s Leadership Forum.

The COVID-19 pandemic of 2020–2021 has impacted all Utahns in profound ways. Yet, a host of national and global reports have argued that women’s employment and careers have been disproportionately impacted during this time. To better understand Utah women’s experiences specifically, UWLP researchers conducted an extensive, in-depth survey focusing on the impacts of COVID-19 on women and work. This comprehensive study included the collection of data on a wide variety of topic areas and included both quantitative and open-ended questions to capture participants’ perceptions and experiences. Over 3,500 Utah women responded to the survey. Study researchers will discuss the findings from this research, particularly focusing on burnout, hope, career advancement challenges, childcare, homeschooling, caregiver experiences, physical and mental health struggles, and more. Come, listen, and learn from this important conversation!

Blood Battle USU vs. Weber State

Special Event

There is a severe blood shortage in the United States right now, due to disasters and the pandemic, which cancelled many blood drives and prevented donors from regular donations. Utah State and Weber State are going head to head in the name of addressing the blood shortage during Blood Battle 2021.

Each school has a goal of collecting 1,000 units of blood, which is an unprecedented aspiration! American Red Cross teams will be on hand from 9:00 AM to 8:00 PM every day for a week so that donors can step up and help community members they may never meet.

Appointments are required this year, and no walk-ins will be taken. Go to redcrossblood.org and type ZIP code 84322 or the sponsor code BLEEDBLUE in the search box in the top right corner to make an appointment.

Many volunteers are also needed to staff the check-in and snack tables. Sign up for a shift or two by logging into AggiePulse, USU's service database, here: https://givepul.se/cmjix1.
