Clothesline Project - Domestic Violence Awareness Month
Special Event
The Clothesline Project is an annual event to raise awareness about domestic violence during the month of October, National Domestic Violence Awareness Month. The Clothesline Project is a visual display of shirts with graphic messages and illustrations that have been designed by survivors of interpersonal violence or by someone who loves someone who has been killed. It was created as a way for survivors to share what has happened to them as well as highlight the realities behind statistics of domestic violence that are often overlooked. The project will be displayed across USU Campus at various dining services locations. We encourage you to visit a display this month and visit our resources page should you or someone you know need help.

The CHaSS Alumni Lunch Series has gone online! Join us for Digital Take-Out as we discuss careers with esteemed alumni. Listen in and participate by asking questions during the live event on Zoom. On Friday, October 28, we'll feature Jason Jerman (BA German & Global Communication ’18, MBA Business Administration & Human Resources ’20), for a conversation on networking—what it is, how to do it, and how it’s helped Jason in his career. He currently works as the HR Coordinator for the International Rescue Committee, a refugee resettlement agency, in Sacramento, California. During his time as a student, Jason worked as a CHaSS Peer Advisor and a Graduate Career Peer, as well as completed an internship with Delta Airlines. Networking is a skill that can help you land great internships and jobs—even as a student! Studying the Humanities and Social Sciences equips you with a plethora of employable skills while networking teaches you how to communicate about them. Music Scholars Series: Melvin L. Butler
Arts/Entertainment
Melvin L. Butler is an associate professor in the Department of Musicology of the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami. A scholar-performer with broad interests in music and religion of the African diaspora, he has conducted field research on popular music and religion in Haiti, Jamaica, and the United States. In these transnational contexts, he interrogates the cultural politics of popular culture and religious worship while attending to the role of musical style in constructing individual and collective identities. His research explores black music-making, improvisation, and transcendence, with an emphasis on discourses of cultural authenticity and power that inflect Spirit-filled Christian worship. Dr. Butler's first book, Island Gospel: Pentecostal Music and Identity in Jamaica and the United States (University of Illinois Press, 2019), examines the theological and experiential connections between Jamaican and African American Pentecostal music and gospel performance. His second book, tentatively titled Claiming Haiti: Music and the Cultural Politics of Transcendence in Haiti, is under contract with Oxford University Press. At the heart of his work lies a critic
Tails from the Crypt: Fundraiser for Cache Humane Society and student Scholarships

Join us for a fun filled celebration of Halloween and the Day of the Dead as we raise money for student scholarships and for a mural to be painted on the exterior of the Cache Humane Society. You'll be able to see a mock-up of the mural design at the event which also features a live and silent auction, DJ and dancing, a costume contest, the Center Street Witches, and a lot more. The event is sponsored by the Caine College of the Arts, the Department of Art + Design, the Animal, Dairy, and Veterinary Science Department, the University Honors Program, the Nora Eccles Harrison Museum of Art, and the Center for Community Engagement. Students are required to participate in these events as a large part of their grades, and these concerts are the culmination of several weeks of classroom rehearsals.
