Moab Paddling & Camping
Recreation
We are heading down south near Moab to spend the weekend playing on the Colorado River in the Moab area. We will enjoy our nights camped in beautiful red rock country while we paddle the rapids of the Moab Daily section. Participants must be able to swim and prepared for fun on the water. Trip cost includes: food, transportation, campground fees, river equipment, tent, sleeping bag, sleeping pad and student leadership.

Join the USU Blanding campus as we host the inaugural NASNTI II conference, Weaving Our Stories - Indigenous Strengths for Inclusive Excellence. This conference will provide best practices for and insights into supporting Native American student success. Throughout the conference, presenters will focus on harnessing and celebrating the unique strengths of Indigenous students in higher education, covering such topics as: -Native Students and their Educational Experiences -Appreciative Advising with Native American Undergraduate Students -Building Mental Health Capacity with Indigenous Students -The Role and Scope of Technical Education Programs -Fostering Habits of Mind Throughout the Undergraduate Curriculum -Approaches to Culturally Competent Teaching -Enhancing Culturally Competent Career Design at a Native American-Serving Institution -Developing Leadership Skills Across Disciplines and Degree Programs -Concurrent Enrollment and Bridging the K-12 and College Divide -Securing the Native American Student Scholarship -Native American Studies at USU
Alumni Exhibition Tiana Godfrey and Tiny Houses
Exhibition
The opening exhibition of the academic year features paintings created by Art+Design BFA alumni Tiana Godfrey along with Tiny Houses created by students in the Interior Architecture and Design Program. The Tiny Houses assignment is a component of the Architectural Graphics and CADD courses, and the project outline is simple: design a small residence for two people, approximately 500 sqft per level. The residence must have more than one level, be built in Utah, and meet all residential building codes. The students create presentation drawings, a three-dimensional model, set of construction documents, and interior and exterior renderings of their custom design.

Sauda Nabukenya is Assistant Professor of Modern African History at Utah State University. As a passionate legal historian and archivist, she is deeply committed to preserving and organizing neglected and endangered local archives, as well as uncovering the hidden histories of ordinary people often obscured in official archives.

Join us to learn the warning signs, common misconceptions and find ways you can have meaningful conversations with your teens to help them when they are struggling with suicidal ideation.
Tanner Talk Series | Biscuits and Botany: Transforming the Early Modern Book

How does a rare, historic book become a piece of 21st-century edible art? Join Ella Hawkins as she creates a new biscuit (cookie) design based on an early printed book from USU’s special collections. As well as demonstrating this design process, Ella will look back at her past biscuit sets and discuss the unique qualities of printed texts from different periods. Ella Hawkins is a Shakespeare scholar, design historian, and artist. She shares her fascination with design by creating edible art inspired by historical textiles, objects, and costumes, working with cultural institutions including the British Library, Jane Austen’s House, and Milton’s Cottage. She is a Senior Lecturer at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama, and the author of Shakespeare in Elizabethan Costume: ‘Period Dress’ in Twenty-First Century Performance.

Contemporary Legends in a Polarized World (Derek Agard Distinguished Lecture)

In a country where trust is at an all-time low and polarization at an all-time high, is everything a legend? Using examples of contemporary or “urban” legends from across the US, Tom Mould, Professor of Anthropology and Folklore (Butler University), explores new approaches to legend research that help us navigate our current landscape of fake news, conspiracy theories, and echo chambers. In the process, Professor Mould upends some long held beliefs about what contemporary legends are, what they do, and what they can tell us about ourselves and the polarized world we live in.

This workshop will cover the following:
- Understand the role of slicing in the 3D printing process and how it converts your design into a printable format.
- Discover how to select the optimal settings for your project to ensure the best results.
- Gain practical knowledge on setting up and executing your prints.
