From campus lab to start-up and beyond: The role of intellectual property in entrepreneurship

Panel Discussion/Presentation

Intellectual property protection was included in the US Constitution in 1789 because of its perceived importance in promoting economic prosperity for the new country. Intellectual property law has evolved since then, including provisions to promote the commercialization of federally funded research at universities. This presentation introduces several types of intellectual property, describes how patents generally promote investment in technology and product development and then looks specifically at the commercialization of university research.

Senior Design Night is USU's largest student innovation and technology expo. During their senior year, students spend about 400 hours designing and building capstone projects that address real-world engineering problems. Students showcase their projects at this free, family-fun event with hands-on demonstrations and activities for all ages.

Aerodynamics of Supersonic Flight: Our final event in the Spring 2024 Engineer in Residence Program. Explore the aerodynamic principles that allow us to evaluate aircraft flying faster than the speed of sound. Plus, USU will unveil plans for an exciting new exhibit at The Leonardo, showcasing supersonic aviation. Hands-on demonstrations, free food, and more.
