National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA)

About This Certificate

The Department of Environment and Society at Utah State University and the Shipley Group, Inc. formed a partnership to provide a certificate program that offers training related to the National Environmental Policy Act.

NEPA is an important environmental law that requires analysis of impacts, alternatives, and mitigation measures for all major federal actions affecting the environment, both within the territorial boundaries of the United States and at foreign military installations.

What You Will Learn

The NEPA certificate program was designed to prepare natural resource and environmental professionals to meet the challenges of complying with the act and working effectively on NEPA documents. All courses are offered in the short-course format of either two or three consecutive eight-hour days, depending on the course.

Admission

Admission Requirements

To apply and be accepted into the NEPA certificate program, a person must do the following:

Complete and submit a NEPA Certificate Program application form to the Department of Environment and Society at USU (for application form and mailing address, see: http://qcnr.usu.edu/nepa/application).
Provide a transcript documenting the completion of a bachelor’s degree.
Mail or FAX both the application and transcript documentation to:

Deadlines

Participants in the program can apply and be admitted at any time. Students can begin the program any semester, and they have five years from their first semester to finish the program. It is recommended, however, that participants complete the program in two years.

Program Requirements

Program participants are required to take a total of eight courses: four required core courses, three elective courses, and one capstone course.

Courses are offered at USU and other locations around the country. All courses are offered in the short-course format of either two or three consecutive eight-hour days, depending on the course. Each course is worth one to two academic credits.
